7 children and teens shot near Indianapolis mall in mass shooting

13:08 31.03.2024

A mass shooting in downtown Indianapolis late Saturday night left seven minors hospitalized with gunshot wounds, according to police. The victims, aged between 12 and 17, were injured just after 11 p.m. outside of the Circle Centre Mall. The Indianapolis Metro Police Department reported that no suspects have been arrested, but multiple firearms were believed to have been used in the incident. Six of the victims were found by patrol officers responding to the sound of gunshots, with a seventh victim arriving at a hospital on their own. Deputy Police Chief Tanya Terry stated that all victims were in stable condition, with one initially in critical condition but now stable. Terry expressed concern over the use of firearms by young people to resolve conflicts, emphasizing the need for parents to be aware of their children's whereabouts. The shooting is part of a concerning trend of gun violence in Indianapolis, with a previous increase in homicides largely committed using firearms. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact the homicide office.
