Cher, Dave Matthews Band and A Tribe Called Quest Join Rock Hall of Fame

04:16 22.04.2024

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2024, which includes iconic artists such as Mary J. Blige, Cher, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, Kool & The Gang, and Ozzy Osbourne. This diverse group of inductees also features folk-rockers Dave Matthews Band and singer-guitarist Peter Frampton. The induction ceremony is set to take place on October 19 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio, and will be streamed live on Disney+ with an airing on ABC at a later date and available on Hulu the next day.

The announcement of the new inductees comes after a star-studded push to get Foreigner into the hall, with support from Mark Ronson, Jack Black, Slash, Dave Grohl, and Paul McCartney. Osbourne, known for his devil imagery and sludgy music, will be inducted as a solo artist, having already been honored with Black Sabbath. Cher, the only artist to have a No. 1 song in each of the past six decades, and Blige, with eight multi-platinum albums and nine Grammy Awards, will help increase the representation of women in the hall.

The Rock Hall has faced criticism in the past for its lack of diversity, but the inclusion of artists like Blige and A Tribe Called Quest shows progress in that regard. Nominees were voted on by more than 1,000 artists, historians, and music industry professionals, with fans also having a say in the selection process. The induction ceremony promises to be a star-studded event, celebrating the impact of these legendary artists on music and culture.
