'Wheel of Fortune' fans enraged as football takes precedence over season premiere

05:52 14.09.2023

Fans of the popular game show "Wheel of Fortune" were left feeling disappointed and frustrated after Monday night's season premiere. The episode, which marked the last season for longtime host Pat Sajak, faced several scheduling issues due to the pregame show for Monday Night Football. This caused major disruptions for viewers, with some unable to watch the episode at all.

The scheduling conflict arose when the pregame show for the Buffalo Bills vs New York Jets game took precedence over "Wheel of Fortune" in certain areas. As a result, fans had to wait until Tuesday morning to catch the premiere, while others were left unable to watch it altogether. Many took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to express their displeasure.

One fan expressed their frustration, stating, "I still can't find Wheel of Fortune on any channel nor a re-run to record, OR on-demand. It's Pat Sajak's last 1st episode. This blows." Another fan, clearly disappointed, tweeted, "Where the hell is tonight's #WheelOfFortune?? I love football, but it's the premiere episode of Pat's last season & my inner boomer is not happy I can't watch it right now!!"

The timing of the game show's airing also caused inconvenience for viewers in certain regions. One fan from Chicago shared, "Was excited for football and the new season of #WheelOfFortune tonight. But then I became bummed when I found out Wheel is preempted by the pregame show. Wheel of Fortune will be on at 3:05 AM in Chicago. Set your DVR."

Pat Sajak himself addressed the issue on X, apologizing to fans for the scheduling conflicts. "Because of football and squabbles between stations and carriers, a lot of you won't be able to see some episodes of Wheel this season," Sajak explained. "We're as sorry as you are, but we are powerless to do anything about it."

Fans of the show were especially upset because this would be Sajak's final season as host. In June, it was announced that Ryan Seacrest would be replacing him at the end of Season 41. Seacrest expressed his gratitude for Sajak, saying, "I'm truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak. It's been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years."

Despite the scheduling issues, the season premiere of "Wheel of Fortune" went on as usual. Sajak and co-host Vanna White made their entrance onto the set, with Sajak jokingly announcing, "Another year!" when White mentioned it was their 41st year hosting the show together. However, the disruption caused by the Monday Night Football pregame show left fans feeling disappointed and wishing they could have enjoyed Sajak's last season without any interruptions.
