AT&T Investigates Massive Data Leak on Dark Web
AT&T, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the United States, is currently investigating a massive data leak that occurred earlier this month. The leaked information, which includes Social Security numbers, was discovered on the dark web and is believed to have originated from 2019 or earlier. The compromised data affects approximately 7.6 million current customers and 65.4 million former customers.
The company stated that it has launched a thorough investigation with the help of internal and external cybersecurity experts. While there is no evidence of unauthorized access to AT&T's systems, the company has taken proactive measures by resetting affected customers' passcodes. Additionally, AT&T is offering free identity theft and credit monitoring services to those impacted by the breach.
This incident comes just a month after a nationwide cellphone outage that affected millions of AT&T customers. The company attributed the disruption to a software update error. Despite these challenges, AT&T remains committed to addressing the data leak and ensuring the security of its customers' information.
