Bears' Justin Fields walks back criticism aimed at coaches: 'I'm not blaming anything on the coaches'

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has had a rough start to his third season in the NFL. In Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers, Fields threw for 216 yards with one touchdown but also had one interception. He was sacked four times in that game. In Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Fields threw two interceptions and was sacked six times. The winless Bears are now preparing to face the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3.

Despite his struggles, Fields received some advice and words of encouragement from Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes advised Fields to trust his talent and instincts and to play freely. However, Fields made some controversial comments about the Bears coaching staff, suggesting that they were partly responsible for his overthinking during games. He mentioned that he needed to trust himself more and play like his "old self."

Fields later walked back his comments, clarifying that he was not blaming the coaches or his teammates for his performance. He took full responsibility and acknowledged that he needs to improve on the field. Bears general manager Ryan Poles held a press conference to support Fields and defend him against claims of blaming others. Poles emphasized that Fields takes ownership of his actions and is constantly working to find solutions.

The Bears coaching staff, led by head coach Matt Eberflus, also addressed Fields' comments. Eberflus expressed his desire to see Fields "let it flow" and play freely. He acknowledged that Fields has the talent and ability to succeed but needs to find the right balance between relying on his teammates and taking charge.

Fields is determined to simplify his game and get back to playing like his "old self." He wants to focus on just playing football and not getting bogged down by too much information and overthinking. Fields wants to play freely and be himself on the field.

The Bears are hoping for a turnaround as they search for their first win of the season. The organization is not panicking and remains focused on solving the issues they face. Poles mentioned that the front office has worked to provide more talent around Fields, and now it's up to him to make the most of it.

The upcoming matchup against the Chiefs will be a tough challenge for Fields and the Bears. However, with the support of his teammates, coaches, and the organization, Fields is determined to improve and lead the team to success.
