Resignation and Mystery Surrounds Bears Coordinator Alan Williams

05:51 23.09.2023

Former Bears defensive coordinator, Alan Williams, appeared somber in the first photos taken of him since his mysterious resignation on Wednesday. Photos obtained by The Post showed Williams outside his home, engaged in a serious conversation with an unidentified man near a vehicle. Williams, who wore a long-sleeve shirt, jeans, and a Nike hat, seemed deep in thought as he spoke with the man.

His resignation came two days prior, as he cited health and family issues after almost a week away from the team. Bears head coach, Matt Eberflus, expressed his friendship and feelings for Williams, stating, "I was with him for four years, five years. I have a lot of friendship, feelings for him. He's resigned and it's for health and family, and we'll see where it goes from there. I have feelings for Alan Williams, of course." Eberflus also mentioned that the issue behind Williams' resignation is personal and that people are giving him space and respecting his decision.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when social media posts began to circulate, claiming that the FBI had raided Williams' home and the Bears' facility, Halas Hall. The Bears, alongside team president Kevin Warren and team chairman George McCaskey, denied these claims. Bears general manager Ryan Poles stated, "Halas Hall being raided is completely false. Don't know where that came from. We've worked with Kevin and George and all our leadership to make sure we were handling it the right way, and everything concluded yesterday." Williams' attorney, Andrew M. Stroth, also denied the rumors, stating that there has been no criminal activity involved and no legal actions taken against his client. He emphasized that Williams' decision to step away was due to health challenges and personal family matters.

In his resignation statement, Williams expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a renowned NFL franchise. He mentioned his intention to return to coaching in the NFL once he addresses his health concerns. Williams has an extensive coaching background, having worked as a defensive coach for various teams since 2001, including the Buccaneers, Colts, Vikings, Lions, and Colts. He joined the Bears in 2022 as their defensive coordinator.

The Bears, who currently hold a 0-2 record, are set to face the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs, on Sunday. Eberflus is expected to take over the defensive play-calling duties for the game.
