Cleveland Browns' David Njoku burned in home fire pit mishap

11:51 01.10.2023

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku is facing uncertainty for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens after suffering burns to his face and arm in a mishap while attempting to light a fire pit at home on Friday night. The incident occurred in Njoku's New Jersey residence, causing concern within the Browns organization as they await further updates on the severity of his injuries.

Following the accident, Njoku was promptly added to the team's injury report and listed as questionable for the upcoming matchup. However, the resilient tight end took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his determination to push through and play. "The flesh is weak. See u tomorrow #DawgPound," he wrote, revealing his strong commitment to his team.

Njoku, a key player in the Browns' offense, has made a significant impact in the early stages of the season. With 10 catches on 11 targets for 92 yards, he has showcased his versatility as both a pass-catcher and a blocker. Head coach Kevin Stefanski praised Njoku's contributions, noting that his presence at the point of attack has been crucial to the team's success.

The news of Njoku's injury compounds the challenges for the Browns, as starting quarterback Deshaun Watson has also been ruled out for the game against the Ravens. Watson, limited in practice due to a shoulder issue, leaves the team with a void to fill under center. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a rookie fifth-round pick from UCLA, is now in line to make his first career start if Watson is unable to play. Thompson-Robinson has displayed promise throughout training camp and the preseason, and he has taken the majority of snaps with the starting offense in preparation for Sunday's game.

To compensate for the potential absence of Njoku, the Browns have elevated tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden from the practice squad, ensuring that they have adequate depth at the position. Mitchell-Paden will serve as insurance in case Njoku is unable to suit up for the game.

The Browns' offensive lineup will undoubtedly face significant challenges without the contributions of both Njoku and Watson. However, the team remains resilient and focused on finding ways to overcome these setbacks and continue their positive start to the season. The Browns currently hold a 2-1 record and will be looking to secure a victory against the formidable Ravens.
