21:59 13.10.2023

President Biden has vowed to do everything in his power to locate and bring home the Americans who are believed to be held hostage by Hamas militants in Gaza. In an interview with Scott Pelley for CBS News' 60 Minutes, Biden expressed his deep concern for the missing Americans and stated that the United States is working tirelessly to find them. The president had a conference call with the families of 14 Americans who have been missing since Hamas launched its attack on Israel. The call, which lasted over an hour, was a way for Biden to convey his support and assure the families that the U.S. government is doing everything possible to locate their loved ones.

During the interview with Pelley, Biden emphasized the urgency of the situation, describing the actions of Hamas as "pure barbarism" and stressing the need to communicate to the world the critical nature of this issue. He expressed his outrage at the hostage situation and reaffirmed the United States' unwavering support for Israel in the face of these attacks. Biden declared, "There's no justification for terrorism. There's no excuse."

The White House believes that a number of Americans are among those being held by Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist group by the U.S. government. The meeting between President Biden and the families of the hostages is set to take place virtually on Friday, where he will be joined by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger Carstens, Undersecretary of State John Bass, and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East Brett McGurk.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that the president conveyed his prayers to the families and assured them that the United States is fully committed to locating and bringing home their loved ones. Kirby also revealed that at least 27 Americans have tragically lost their lives in the recent violence.

The situation in Gaza remains tense, with Israel responding to Hamas' attacks with airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. Health officials report that the violence has resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,800 people. The United States stands firmly with Israel and will provide the necessary support to protect its citizens and respond to these attacks.

The efforts to locate and rescue the American hostages are ongoing, and the United States government is dedicated to resolving this crisis. President Biden's interview with Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes will give further insight into his determination to bring the missing Americans back home. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
