Teacher tells Jewish students to stand in a corner just as 'Israel does to the Palestinians'

A Stanford University instructor has been suspended after allegedly targeting Jewish students during a class discussion on the Middle East conflict. The incident, which occurred in the wake of the brutal Hamas terror attacks in Israel, has caused serious concern on campus. Reports suggest that the instructor asked Jewish and Israeli students to identify themselves and then instructed them to stand in a corner, stating "this is what Israel does to the Palestinians." The instructor also allegedly made controversial statements such as "Israel is a colonizer" and "Hamas is a legitimate representation of the Palestinian people."

Stanford President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez addressed the situation in a statement, emphasizing the university's commitment to academic freedom while also condemning harassment and abuse. They stated that the expression of political views is important, but identity-based targeting of students is not permissible. The university declined to provide further comment on the matter due to it being a personnel issue.

Rabbi Dov Greenberg, director of the Chabad Stanford Jewish Center, confirmed the incident and expressed concern for the affected students. He revealed that some students were afraid to speak up out of fear of repercussions. Jewish students at American universities have already expressed their shock at the pro-Hamas sentiment on their campuses amidst the ongoing conflict.

In response to the incident, Israel formally declared war on Hamas, following the terrorist group's violent and heinous attacks on Israeli civilians. Jewish students at Stanford and other campuses are feeling isolated, attacked, and threatened, according to Rabbi Greenberg. The incident at Stanford is not an isolated event, as tensions and anti-Israel sentiment continue to rise on US university campuses.

This incident comes amid growing tensions across US universities, with Harvard University facing criticism after 31 societies signed a letter blaming Israel for the Hamas attacks. Additionally, banners with anti-Israel messages were hung on Stanford University's campus over the weekend before being removed.

The university has not disclosed further details about the incident but has acknowledged that it is a cause for serious concern. They are committed to investigating the matter thoroughly and providing support and resources to affected communities.
