Eovaldi's perfect postseason propels Rangers to Game 7 in ALCS

23:49 22.10.2023

In a stunning turn of events, the Texas Rangers managed to avoid elimination in Game 6 of the AL Championship Series with an impressive 9-2 victory over the Houston Astros. Nathan Eovaldi once again proved his dominance this postseason, pitching 6 1/3 innings and only allowing five hits and two runs. Eovaldi's performance improved his playoff record to 4-0 with a 2.42 ERA.

The game got off to an exciting start as Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim both hit early home runs to give the Rangers a comfortable lead. However, it was Adolis Garc?a's ninth-inning grand slam that truly broke the game open and secured the win for Texas. Garc?a, who had struck out in his previous four at-bats, redeemed himself with a powerful swing that sent the ball into the Crawford Boxes in left field.

The Astros, who had been struggling with lackluster play at home throughout the postseason, once again fell short in their own stadium. Starting pitcher Framber Valdez had a subpar outing, giving up five hits and three runs in five innings. Valdez's postseason record dropped to 0-3 with a disappointing 9.00 ERA.

The Rangers now face a must-win Game 7 on Monday night in Houston. As one of the six major league teams without a World Series title, the Rangers are determined to return to the Fall Classic for the first time since their back-to-back trips in 2010-11. On the other hand, the defending World Series champion Astros are vying for their third consecutive World Series appearance.

The Astros' struggles at home have been a significant factor in this series. Despite being undefeated on the road this postseason, they have a dismal 1-4 record in Houston. Minute Maid Park, usually a fortress for the Astros, has not provided them with the same level of success in the playoffs.

This series has made history, joining the 2019 World Series as the only best-of-seven series in postseason history in which the road team has won the first six games. The Astros had initially taken the lead in Game 6 with an RBI single by Yordan Alvarez in the first inning. However, Garver's solo shot in the second tied the game, and Heim's two-run homer in the fourth gave the Rangers the lead.

The Rangers extended their lead with an RBI double by Garver in the eighth inning, providing some insurance runs. Despite a late attempt by the Astros to cut the lead in the eighth, the Rangers' bullpen held strong, ultimately securing the victory.

For the Rangers, this win is a significant milestone. It is their first elimination game victory in the postseason since 2010, and only their second win in eight tries. Adolis Garc?a's grand slam was the icing on the cake, serving as a redemption for his earlier struggles and solidifying his place as a key player for the Rangers.

The Astros had a chance to rally in the eighth inning, loading the bases with only one out. However, Jose Leclerc stepped up and forced a pop out and a strikeout to extinguish the threat. The Astros' offense failed to find their rhythm, with their only other hit after the first inning coming from a single by Alvarez in the sixth.

As the Rangers celebrate their hard-fought victory, all eyes will now be on Game 7, which will determine the American League representative in the World Series. The Astros will look to bounce back and rely on their road magic, while the Rangers are determined to make history and secure their first World Series title. It will be a high-stakes showdown that fans won't want to miss.
