Minnesota Doctor Arrested and Charged with Second-Degree Murder for Allegedly Poisoning Wife

A shocking case unfolded in Minnesota as a doctor with a background in poison control was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for allegedly poisoning his wife, who tragically passed away in August. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Connor Bowman, was taken into custody on Friday following an investigation into the suspicious death of his wife, Betty Bowman, aged 32.

The incident came to light when police discovered that the couple had been experiencing financial and marital difficulties prior to Betty's sudden and tragic demise. It was revealed that Connor stood to gain a significant life insurance payout following his wife's death. Investigators from the Rochester Police Department found evidence suggesting that Connor, who had previously worked for a poison control center, may have administered a drug to his wife for an ailment she did not have, leading to her untimely death.

Betty Bowman was admitted to the hospital in mid-August after suffering from symptoms of diarrhea and dehydration. However, her condition rapidly deteriorated, and she experienced cardiac issues, fluid in her lungs, and organ failure. She underwent surgery to remove part of her colon. Following her death, Connor attempted to have his wife cremated, but the medical examiner's office intervened upon determining the suspicious nature of her passing.

Further investigations revealed that the couple had been contemplating divorce due to infidelity and a deteriorating relationship. It was discovered that Connor had attended pharmacy school, worked in poison control in Kansas, and was currently enrolled in medical school. Additionally, it was disclosed that the couple maintained separate bank accounts due to Connor's substantial debt. He had reportedly informed a friend that he expected to receive a $500,000 life insurance payout following his wife's demise.

Connor Bowman, a credentialed physician and surgeon, had an affiliation with the Mayo Clinic. The clinic has declined to comment on the case at this time. Reports indicate that Bowman worked as a poison specialist and had access to medications commonly used in cases involving poisoning. Investigators discovered that he had researched colchicine, a drug used in the treatment of gout. Although there were no calls pertaining to colchicine during his work hours, toxicology results later revealed the presence of the drug in Betty's blood and urine samples taken during her hospitalization.

During a search of Bowman's residence, police found a receipt for a $450,000 bank deposit, which raised further suspicion. Friends and family described Betty as a dedicated hospital pharmacist who worked at the Mayo Clinic and was highly regarded by her colleagues. Her obituary highlighted her love for her Corgi, her passion for food, and her travels to Iceland and Hawaii.

Connor Bowman appeared in court on Monday, where his bond was set at $5 million. He remains incarcerated at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center. The investigation into the alleged murder continues, with authorities piecing together the evidence to present a strong case against the accused doctor.
