Former Medical Examiner: Matthew Perry's Toxicology Report to Be Completed Soon

14:28 11.11.2023

Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom "Friends," was found dead in his hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades, California on October 28. His official death certificate has now been released, revealing that he passed away at 4:17 p.m. Perry's stepfather and longtime Dateline correspondent Keith Morrison, 76, was listed as the informant on the certificate. The document also stated that Perry was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles on November 3.

The private ceremony was attended by Perry's family and his former Friends co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Courteney Cox. Forest Lawn Memorial Park is located near the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank, California, where the cast filmed the beloved sitcom for 10 years.

The cause of Perry's death has been listed as deferred on the death certificate. Previous reports from law enforcement sources confirmed that Perry died after an apparent drowning in his hot tub. However, toxicology reports were still pending at the time of the certificate's release. Initial tests indicated that no illegal drugs, including fentanyl and meth, were found in Perry's system.

Dr. Michael Baden, a former chief medical examiner of New York City and Fox News contributor, explained that toxicology tests often take time, but the leaked information from law enforcement suggests that a full report may already be completed. He stated that the findings are likely being discussed with the prosecutor and the family before being released.

No foul play is suspected in Perry's death, and there is no indication of any illegal drug involvement. However, the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division has taken over the investigation, which is not uncommon for high-profile cases. The circumstances surrounding Perry's death are still under investigation by both the LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner.

Perry had been open about his struggles with addiction and his journey to sobriety. In an interview with The New York Times in October 2022, he revealed that he had been sober since early 2021. A friend of Perry's, who saw him the day before he died, confirmed that he was "100% sober."

The details surrounding Perry's death remain limited, and questions continue to arise. Fox News Digital filed a public records request for the 911 audio recordings and transcripts from the day of Perry's death, but the request has been transferred to the city attorney's office due to "unusual circumstances." The 911 call has been identified, but the audio is currently under review for redaction purposes.

Defense attorney David Gelman explained that, under normal circumstances, body camera footage and 911 calls would be considered public records subject to release. However, law enforcement officials may seek to redact the video or audio. Gelman also noted that the transfer of the case to the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division suggests a possible investigation into foul play or the involvement of another party.

As the investigation continues, fans and loved ones mourn the loss of Matthew Perry. His contributions to the entertainment industry and his advocacy for sobriety will be remembered.
