Jonathan Majors" to face ex accusing him of assault as opening statements begin in domestic assault trial

16:58 05.12.2023

Marvel actor Jonathan Majors is facing charges of assault and harassment brought against him by his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Jabbari took the stand in New York County Criminal Court, testifying that Majors had manipulated her by threatening to kill himself and that she had endured two years of verbal abuse. According to Jabbari, the assault occurred in March of this year when she spotted a text from another woman on Majors' phone. Majors allegedly slapped Jabbari in the face and fractured her finger before forcefully throwing her back into the backseat of a hired car. Majors denies the allegations, with his lawyers claiming that he was the victim of a jilted lover.

During the trial, Jabbari described their relationship as initially "kind and loving," but said that Majors' moods became increasingly unpredictable, often resulting in arguments and the destruction of objects in their home. Jabbari said she felt isolated and dependent on Majors, who was the only person who knew about the abuse she endured. The alleged assault took place after they had attended a play and dined at a restaurant in Brooklyn. It was during the car ride back to Manhattan that the situation escalated, with Jabbari discovering the incriminating text message on Majors' phone. A struggle ensued, during which Majors attempted to pry the phone out of Jabbari's hands. She managed to escape from the car, and video footage presented in court appeared to show Majors pushing her back inside.

Majors' attorney, Priya Chaudhry, portrayed Jabbari as a vengeful ex-lover seeking to sabotage his career. Chaudhry also suggested that the racial difference between Majors and Jabbari played a role in his arrest, insinuating that he would not have been arrested if the roles were reversed. Majors' defense team has released videos and evidence to counter the severity of Jabbari's injuries and challenge her credibility.

The trial, which is expected to last two weeks, could have significant implications for Majors' career. Since the allegations emerged, some of his work has been postponed or pulled, including the release of the highly anticipated film Magazine Dreams and his upcoming role in the Marvel film "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty." If convicted, Majors could face up to a year in jail. It remains uncertain whether Majors will testify in his own defense.
