Brittany Mahomes' Concise Reaction to Chiefs' Controversial Loss

10:05 11.12.2023

In a dramatic turn of events during the Kansas City Chiefs' 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes' wife, Brittany Mahomes, made her opinion on the controversial ending of the game clear. Taking to her Instagram Stories, the quarterback's biggest cheerleader shared a video of a back judge on the field, patiently waiting for the Bills to finish the game. Accompanying the video was a caption that read "MVP," indicating Brittany's sarcastic take on the referee's performance.

The controversy stemmed from the final drive of the game, where the Chiefs believed they had scored a touchdown. A long pass to star tight end Travis Kelce, followed by a brilliant lateral to wide receiver Kadarius Toney, resulted in what seemed like the go-ahead touchdown. However, the play was nullified by an offsides penalty on Toney. Replays showed that Toney's foot had crossed the line of scrimmage, justifying the call. Nonetheless, Mahomes was visibly furious and had to be restrained from confronting the referees as he furiously yelled in their direction.

After the game, Mahomes expressed his frustration with the officiating, stating, "Lost for words, man, it's tough to swallow. I've played seven years [and] never had offensive offside called. That's elementary school [stuff] we're talking about. There was no warning throughout the entire game. Then you wait until there's a minute left in the game to make a call like that? Regardless if we win or lose, just the end of another game, and we're talking about the refs. It's just not what we want for the NFL and for football."

This is not the first time the Chiefs have been on the wrong end of questionable officiating. In their previous game against the Green Bay Packers, a crucial pass interference call was not made on a deep ball to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The non-call prevented the Chiefs from potentially tying the game with a touchdown, resulting in a 27-19 loss. Mahomes, who refrained from commenting on the issue last week, expressed his disappointment, saying, "Obviously tough to swallow, not only for me but for football in general. For a guy like Travis to make a play like that. Who knows if we win... you know as fans you want to see the guys on the field decide the game. That's why last week I didn't say anything with the play with Marquez. They're human. They make mistakes, but every week we're talking about something and all I can do is give everything I have. A great football game that ends that way is tough to swallow."

After the game, Brittany Mahomes posted a photo with her friends, seemingly trying to move on from the disappointing loss. However, the defeat dropped the Chiefs to an 8-5 record, leaving them with only a one-game lead over the Denver Broncos in the AFC West. Looking to break their two-game losing streak, the Chiefs now face the New England Patriots on Sunday in what will be a crucial matchup.
