Kings G League player arrested by FBI in connection to woman's disappearance

10:49 17.12.2023

In a shocking turn of events, an NBA G League player has been arrested by FBI agents in connection to the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman in Las Vegas. Chance Comanche, a 27-year-old center who was playing for the Stockton Kings, the Sacramento Kings' affiliate in the G League, was taken into custody on Friday afternoon. He has since been booked on charges of first-degree kidnapping and is currently being held in the Sacramento County Jail without the possibility of bail.

The victim in this case is Marayna Rodgers, a medical assistant from Washington who went missing on December 6th while on a trip to Las Vegas to visit friends. According to investigators, Rodgers got into a car with 19-year-old Sakari Harnden, who is also facing a first-degree kidnapping charge. Harnden was arrested in Las Vegas on December 13th and is being held on a $500,000 bail at the downtown Las Vegas jail.

Comanche's involvement in the case raises many questions, as he had played a G League game against the G League Ignite in Henderson, Nevada, on December 5th, the night before Rodgers disappeared. Henderson is located just 15 miles away from Las Vegas, but it remains unclear how long Comanche stayed in the city. The Kings played a game against the Rip City Remix in Portland, Oregon, on December 7th, and Comanche was present for that game.

Details surrounding the alleged kidnapping are disturbing. A criminal complaint states that Harnden held or detained Rodgers against her will and without her consent with the intention of killing her and/or causing her bodily harm. The seriousness of the charges prompted Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Diana Sullivan to set Harnden's bail at $500,000, while also requesting that the court be notified immediately if Rodgers is located alive.

Rodgers' disappearance has left her loved ones in shock, as they insist that it is entirely out of character for her to leave her family and her beloved dogs behind. Those close to her describe her as responsible and say that she had a stable job, making her sudden disappearance all the more mysterious.

Comanche, who stands at 6-foot-10, went undrafted out of the University of Arizona but has had a stint in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2022-23 season. Over the past two seasons, he has made 24 appearances for the Stockton Kings, including 13 this year, where he has been averaging 14 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.

The developments in this case have sent shockwaves through the basketball community and have left many wondering about the circumstances surrounding Comanche's arrest and his potential involvement in Rodgers' disappearance. As the investigation continues, all eyes are on the upcoming court dates for both Comanche and Harnden, where more information may come to light.
