Alec Baldwin, PETA send letter demanding Radio City Music Hall stop using live animals in Christmas show

16:11 24.12.2023

Actor Alec Baldwin has criticized the use of live animals in Radio City Music Hall's "Radio City Christmas Spectacular" show. In a letter written on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Baldwin urged James Dolan, CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corporation, to end the use of donkeys, camels, and sheep in the show's Nativity scene. Baldwin argued that the inclusion of live animals is an archaic practice that goes against the Christmas spirit and that other productions, such as Broadway's "The Lion King," have successfully worked around the use of live animals. He highlighted the stress and cruelty that animals experience when being transported and kept in cramped conditions for shows. Baldwin also criticized the association of the show with the Dawn Animal Agency, which has been cited by the US Department of Agriculture for allegedly neglecting animals' basic needs. A spokesperson for MSG denied that the show gets its animals from the Dawn Animal Agency and stated that the animals in the show receive exceptional care. PETA has announced plans to protest the use of animals in the show by dumping coal on Radio City Music Hall's doorstep.
