Florida Teen Fatally Shoots Sister in Christmas Gift Argument

17:01 27.12.2023

In a shocking incident that has left a Florida community reeling, a 14-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed his older sister during a heated argument over Christmas gifts. The tragic event took place on Christmas Eve, as the two brothers, aged 14 and 15, were out shopping with their mother and sister. According to Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, tensions arose when the boys began arguing about who was receiving more presents.

The argument continued when the family arrived at their grandmother's home in Largo. It was there that the 14-year-old brother took out a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and threatened to shoot his older brother in the head. The situation escalated when their sister, 23-year-old Abrielle Baldwin, intervened and urged them to stop. However, the 14-year-old directed derogatory language towards her and proceeded to shoot her in the chest while she was holding her 11-month-old baby in a carrier. Miraculously, the baby was unharmed.

In a shocking turn of events, the 15-year-old brother emerged from the house with a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun and shot his younger brother in the stomach, shouting, "You shot my motherf- sister!". The sheriff's office reported that there was an eight-second gap between the shooting of Abrielle and the subsequent shooting of the 14-year-old brother. By the time he was shot, the 14-year-old was no longer in possession of his gun.

Following the incident, the 15-year-old brother fled the scene, discarding his weapon in a nearby yard. He was later located in Clearwater and taken into custody. However, he made self-harm statements and was subsequently transferred to a mental health facility. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Tragically, Abrielle Baldwin succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri expressed his condolences, describing her as a woman who was "just going about life doing her thing with her two kids." He highlighted the devastating impact this incident has had on her children, an 11-month-old baby and a 6-year-old boy, who are now left without their mother.

The 14-year-old brother, who was also injured in the altercation, underwent surgery and is currently in stable condition at a hospital. He has been charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, and being a delinquent in possession of a firearm. The Pinellas-Pasco County State Attorney's Office will determine whether he will be charged as an adult.

This tragic incident has shed light on the issue of gun violence among young individuals in the area. Sheriff Gualtieri revealed that during their investigation, it became apparent that the teenage brothers had a history of carrying firearms, often obtained through stealing from unlocked cars. He emphasized the urgent need for tougher laws to address this problem, stating, "These young kids, 14, 15 years old, routinely carry firearms, and this is what happens when you got young delinquents that carry guns."

The community is left in shock and mourning as they grapple with the devastating loss of Abrielle Baldwin and the tragic circumstances surrounding her death. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to address the issue of gun violence and its impact on young individuals in the area.
