Panthers Owner David Tepper Throws Drink at Jaguars Fan in Controversial Incident

20:19 31.12.2023

In a shocking turn of events during Sunday's game between the Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Panthers owner David Tepper was caught on camera appearing to throw a drink at a fan. The video, which was originally posted on Instagram, shows Tepper tossing the beverage in a plastic cup and flipping it against a countertop before walking away. It is unclear what provoked Tepper's actions, but the fan can be seen standing on his chair and angrily looking into the owner's box.

The incident occurred during the Panthers' 26-0 loss to the Jaguars, a game that further added to the team's disappointing season. The Panthers, with a record of 2-14, have struggled under Tepper's ownership. Tepper, who bought the franchise in 2018 for a record-breaking $2.2 billion, has been through two head coaches and has seen the team's combined record since his takeover plummet to 31-67.

Prior to the game, another video involving Tepper surfaced, showing him on the field greeting a fan holding a sign that read, "2-13, I never missed a game." This sign highlighted the team's poor performance and the frustration felt by the fans. Tepper's actions during the game only added fuel to the fire.

The NFL has acknowledged the video and stated that they have no further comment at this time. The Panthers have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the incident. However, Tepper's frustrations may have been building up, as Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler claimed to have been "getting frozen out of asking a question" during Tepper's press conference about team moves.

Despite their dismal season, the Panthers do not hold the top pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. They traded up to select quarterback Bryce Young as the No. 1 overall pick in last year's draft, and the Arizona Cardinals' unexpected win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday secured them the first pick. This adds another layer of disappointment for the team.

In the game against the Jaguars, Young completed 19-of-32 passes for 112 yards and an interception. However, the Jaguars, led by Travis Etienne's two touchdowns, including a 62-yard burst at the start of the third quarter, managed to secure a resounding victory despite quarterback Trevor Lawrence's absence due to a shoulder injury.

The incident involving Tepper and the fan has sparked widespread discussion and debate. It remains to be seen how the Panthers organization will address the situation and whether any disciplinary action will be taken against Tepper. As the season comes to a close, the Panthers will have much to reflect on and evaluate in order to turn their fortunes around in the future.
