Rage Against the Machine Officially Ends Touring, Drummer Confirms

00:49 05.01.2024

In a surprising announcement, Rage Against the Machine's drummer, Brad Wilk, revealed that the band will not be touring or performing live again. This marks the third time that the iconic rock group has disbanded in the last two decades. The news comes after the band canceled the remainder of their North American tour in 2022 due to frontman Zack de La Rocha tearing his left Achilles tendon.

Taking to Instagram, Wilk shared a heartfelt post, expressing his regret and apologizing to fans who have been eagerly waiting for the band's return. He stated, "I don't want to string people or myself any further. So while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future... I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom and I) will not be touring or playing live again." The post ended abruptly, leaving fans with no further information.

This announcement marks the third time that Rage Against the Machine has broken up, at least temporarily. The band first disbanded in 2000 when Zack de La Rocha expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision-making process within the group. However, they reunited in 2007 for a performance at Coachella and went on to tour until 2011. They then split again, only to announce their comeback in 2019 with plans to headline a tour in 2020, which was subsequently postponed due to the pandemic.

The news of the band's breakup comes just months after their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, where they were introduced by Ice-T. During the ceremony, guitarist Tom Morello urged the crowd to fight for a world "without compromise or apologies." This statement perfectly encapsulates the band's ethos, as they have always been known for their outspoken leftist views.

Rage Against the Machine formed in 1991 and quickly rose to fame with their self-titled debut album in 1992. The album received critical acclaim and commercial success, solidifying the band's place in rock history. Over the years, they won two Grammy Awards and were recognized by Rolling Stone as having one of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

The band's legacy also includes their daring and controversial performances. In 2022, during a reunion concert, they flashed pro-abortion images and text saying "Abort the Supreme Court" after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. This act further solidified their reputation as a band unafraid to use their platform to voice their political beliefs.

Despite their ups and downs, Rage Against the Machine has left an indelible mark on the music industry. Their fusion of metal, punk rock, funk, and hip-hop created a unique sound that resonated with fans around the world. Their powerful lyrics and uncompromising political stance made them a force to be reckoned with, and their influence can still be felt today.

As fans come to terms with the news of the band's breakup, they can take solace in the fact that Rage Against the Machine's music will forever serve as a reminder of the power of protest and the importance of fighting for what you believe in. Though they may never perform live again, their impact will continue to inspire generations to come.
