Gypsy Rose Blanchard celebrates freedom on TikTok: 'Finally free'

21:44 31.12.2023

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who gained notoriety for her involvement in the murder of her mother, Claudine Dee Dee Blanchard, celebrated her newfound freedom on Sunday after being released from prison on parole last week. Gypsy Rose, now 32 years old, had spent the past 10 years behind bars for her role in persuading her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mother in 2015. The murder came after years of medical abuse inflicted upon Gypsy Rose by her mother, who forced her to pretend that she was suffering from various terminal illnesses.

In a video posted on TikTok, Gypsy Rose expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she had received from her followers on social media. She thanked everyone for their kindness and support and mentioned that she was back home in Louisiana, enjoying the freedom and a beautiful day outside. Gypsy Rose also took the opportunity to promote her new e-book, "Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom," and her upcoming documentary series, "The Prison Confession of Gypsy Rose Blanchard," which will be featured on Lifetime.

During another video, Gypsy Rose wished her supporters a happy New Year's Eve and shared her excitement about spending the holiday with her husband, Chris Anderson, her father, and stepfather. She expressed her anticipation for the family time after being separated for so long.

Since her release, Gypsy Rose has established herself on social media, particularly on Instagram, where she has nearly five million followers. She recently posted a selfie wearing a New Orleans Saints jersey, showcasing her love for her home state of Louisiana. The selfie received a significant amount of attention, with over six million likes.

Gypsy Rose's story has captivated the public's attention due to the extreme nature of the abuse she endured and her involvement in her mother's murder. Her mother's Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder in which parents seek sympathy through the fabricated illnesses of their children, led to years of unnecessary medical procedures and surgeries for Gypsy Rose. This abuse ultimately drove her to seek freedom by convincing her boyfriend to kill her mother.

The case has been the subject of various documentaries and television series, including the HBO documentary "Mommy Dead and Dearest" in 2017 and the Hulu mini-series The Act in 2019. Gypsy Rose's release from prison and her subsequent presence on social media have reignited public interest in her story.
