Father and son arrested in connection with the murder of pregnant Texas woman and her boyfriend

San Antonio, TX - Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of 18-year-old Savanah Soto and her boyfriend, 22-year-old Matthew Guerra. Christopher Preciado, 19, has been charged with capital murder, while his father, 53-year-old Ramon Preciado, faces charges of abuse of a corpse for allegedly helping to move the bodies. The San Antonio Police Department has confirmed the charges and stated that additional charges may be pending, possibly related to the death of Soto's unborn child.

The tragic incident took place just after Christmas, when Soto and Guerra were found shot to death inside his car. San Antonio police believe that the murders were the result of a narcotics deal gone wrong. Sergeant Washington Moscoso stated in a press conference that the family raised the alarm when Soto missed an appointment to be induced, a procedure typically offered to women who are past their due date or if there is a medical risk.

Soto's family has vehemently denied any involvement with drugs and insisted that she was unduly influenced by Guerra. Her brother, Jordan Corona, told NBC News that Soto did not use drugs and was even sensitive to second-hand smoke. He expressed concern over his sister's relationship with her abusive boyfriend, stating, "My sister was a little sweetheart. She didn't even like being near smoke. I guess it was just one of those wrong-place, wrong-time situations. She doesn't get around that type of stuff (drugs). Of course her boyfriend was the way he was, but as far as her (involvement with drugs), no."

Guerra had a history of violence towards Soto. On Christmas Day 2022, he was arrested for assaulting her. A doorbell camera captured Guerra kicking Soto in the face and punching her multiple times. Despite their disapproval of the relationship, Soto's family was unable to separate them. Guerra was placed on probation after pleading no contest to assault causing bodily injury on a domestic partner.

The couple's relationship seemed to be on good terms despite the violent incident. Guerra's defense attorney, Christopher Castro, stated that they were "together as soon as they could be again." Castro also claimed to have no knowledge of Guerra having issues with drugs.

Investigators are still unsure of the exact location where the murders took place, but they believe that the couple was gunned down and then moved to the location where they were found. Soto's cellphone played a crucial role in leading the police to the suspects' car. The U.S. Secret Service assisted in downloading information from the phone, helping to identify and locate the suspects' vehicle.

The arrest of Christopher and Ramon Preciado has brought some peace to Soto's family. Her brother expressed relief, stating, "It gives us a little peace knowing my sister's little family, that the person who killed them, is going toward justice. Nothing will fill the emptiness of not having her and my nephew around."

This devastating loss comes just 19 months after Soto's 15-year-old brother, Ethan Soto, was also shot dead in a dispute over money. The family is hoping that charges related to the death of Soto's unborn child will be filed soon. They plan to bury Soto with her baby in her arms, as they consider the baby to be a human being.
