Two suspected squatters have been apprehended in connection with the death of 52-year-old Nadia Vitel, whose body was found inside a duffel bag in her late mother's New York City apartment. The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Halley Tejada and a 16-year-old, were unlawfully occupying the apartment, according to police sources. Vitel, who had traveled from Spain to prepare the apartment for a family friend, was found dead on March 14 after a wellness check in the Kips Bay neighborhood. The New York City Medical Examiner's Office ruled her death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head. Surveillance footage showed Vitel's movements on March 10 and the teenagers entering the building shortly after. The suspects were later seen leaving the building on March 12 in Vitel's stolen car, which they crashed in Pennsylvania. The U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended them in York, Pennsylvania. The suspects remain at large, and anyone with information is urged to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline. The investigation into Vitel's tragic death continues as authorities work to bring justice for her and her family.
