Actor Jonathan Majors was sentenced to a yearlong counseling program on Monday in Manhattan Criminal Court for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, in a case that has had significant repercussions on his career. Majors, who could have faced up to a year in jail, was found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment charges in December. The conviction led to Marvel Studios cutting ties with him and Searchlight Pictures scrapping the release of a film in which he starred. Two other women who dated Majors in the past also came forward with allegations of abuse against him. The incident with Jabbari occurred in March 2023, when she saw a text message on Majors' phone from another woman. A physical altercation ensued in a hired S.U.V. in Lower Manhattan, resulting in Jabbari's finger being broken. Majors denied the allegations and claimed he was trying to regain his phone and escape safely. Despite hoping for a different outcome, Majors now faces a civil suit filed by Jabbari in federal court, accusing him of assault, battery, defamation, and emotional distress. The actor, known for his roles in "The Last Black Man in San Francisco" and "Lovecraft Country," will be required to complete a counseling program and pay a fine, as well as adhere to probation conditions and an order of protection for Jabbari. The future of Majors' career remains uncertain, with questions arising about potential recasting in the Marvel franchise.
