Tragic hiking accident claims mother's life in Arizona

16:44 20.04.2024

A tragic incident unfolded on Bear Mountain in Sedona, Arizona, as a mother-of-three, Zaynab Joseph, fell 140 feet to her death while hiking with her husband and 1-year-old child. The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office reported that a group of hikers discovered Joseph after hearing yelling and found her seriously injured but still breathing. Despite efforts to save her, Joseph passed away shortly after. The family, who had traveled from California and were staying in an Airbnb in Sedona, were airlifted off the mountain while Joseph's body was recovered by search and rescue teams. Friends and family described Joseph as a "beacon of positivity" with a heart of gold, leaving behind three young children. The cause of her death is under investigation, and the sheriff's office is urging anyone with information to come forward. This marks the third hiker death in Sedona this year, highlighting the dangers of the challenging trails in the area. The Bear Mountain trail, where the incident occurred, is known for being steep, unshaded, and difficult in places, ascending 1,800 feet and unsuitable for horses. The Sedona area attracts millions of tourists annually, drawn to its scenic outdoor activities and stunning red rock formations. The investigation into Zaynab Joseph's tragic death continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading to the fatal fall.
