Dolphins' Jalen Ramsey faces knee surgery, determined to recover

03:08 29.07.2023

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey will be sidelined for an extended period of time after suffering a meniscus injury in practice on Thursday. The 28-year-old underwent a full repair of his knee on Friday and is expected to be out until December, according to reports. Ramsey, who was acquired by the Dolphins in a trade with the Rams during the offseason, was projected to miss six to eight weeks with the injury, but the extent of the surgery will keep him off the field for a longer duration.

Ramsey took to social media to update his fans and teammates on the successful surgery, expressing gratitude for their support and promising to come back stronger than ever. Head coach Mike McDaniel praised Ramsey's response to the injury, stating that he addressed the team and conveyed his appreciation for their acceptance and the special atmosphere within the organization.

The Dolphins will now have to rely on Kader Kohou and 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith to fill Ramsey's spot in the secondary. Kohou had a solid performance last season with one interception and 10 passes defended in 15 games, while Smith showcased his playmaking ability with six interceptions during his college career at the University of South Carolina.

Ramsey's absence will undoubtedly be felt by the Dolphins, who made the trade to bolster their secondary with the six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro. However, the team remains optimistic and determined to overcome this setback, with Ramsey's teammates vowing to hold it down until his return.

The injury occurred during a non-contact play as Ramsey covered receiver Tyreek Hill during practice. The collision resulted in Ramsey injuring his left knee, prompting him to leave the field with the assistance of athletic trainers. He underwent an MRI exam, which revealed the need for surgery to repair the meniscus injury.

Ramsey's return timeline is uncertain, with conflicting reports suggesting he could potentially be back for the season opener or face a longer recovery period depending on the rehabilitation process. Despite the setback, Ramsey's positive attitude and trust in his faith have been evident, as he remains confident in his ability to overcome this adversity.

Upon joining the Dolphins, Ramsey agreed to a reworked contract, signing a three-year deal worth $35.5 million in fully guaranteed money. His arrival was met with high expectations, given his impressive track record in the NFL, which includes 19 interceptions and 92 passes defended over seven seasons.

The Dolphins will now have to navigate the early part of their season without Ramsey's presence on the field, relying on their depth and the abilities of Kohou and Smith to fill the void. It will undoubtedly be a challenging period for the team, but they remain focused on their goals and determined to make the most of this opportunity to showcase their resilience.
