Jets Legends Klecko and Revis Achieve Hall of Fame Dreams

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, was filled with gratitude and heartfelt thank you's on Saturday as two former New York Jets players, Joe Klecko and Darrelle Revis, were inducted into the prestigious hall. Both players hailed from Pennsylvania and had paved their way to success through their time with the Jets.

Joe Klecko, widely regarded as one of the best defensive players in Jets history, began his journey in football at St. James High School in Chester, Pennsylvania. Despite not receiving any scholarship offers after high school, Klecko did not give up on his dreams. He found himself working for a trucking company until he was invited to try out for the Aston Knights, a semi-pro team in the Seaboard Football League.

Recalling the pivotal moment that changed his life, Klecko expressed his gratitude towards his wife, Debbie. On the day of his tryout, Klecko admitted to getting cold feet, making excuses to avoid going to the field. However, Debbie took matters into her own hands and threw the keys out of the car window. This unexpected action forced Klecko to retrieve the keys, which caught the attention of the team members. Encouraged by their invitation, Klecko tried out and made the team. He credited his wife for pushing him to take that leap of faith, stating, "If it wasn't for Debbie making me get out of my car, I wouldn't be sitting here today wearing this gold jacket.''

Darrelle Revis, known as one of the greatest cornerbacks to ever play the game, also expressed his gratitude towards a loved one who played a significant role in his success. Revis took the stage and emotionally thanked his mother, Diana Askew, for being the catalyst in his journey. He recounted how his mother would take away the very thing he loved, football, whenever he wasn't performing well academically. Although he initially didn't appreciate her actions, Revis acknowledged that the lesson taught him the importance of focusing on both academics and sports. He thanked his mother for guiding him on the path that led him to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Diana Askew, reflecting on her son's accomplishments, shared her amazement at seeing him become a Jet. She remembered saying to herself, "That's my son out there doing this. It was amazing, like a superhero." Revis, known for his dominant play on the field, earned the nickname Revis Island for his ability to shut down opposing receivers. Askew proudly proclaimed that her son's legacy was creating an island on the field that no player could overcome, stating, "No man has an island, but Darrelle Revis does. He was a very dominant player. He went after a player's will.''

Both Klecko and Revis left an indelible mark on the New York Jets franchise. Klecko was a key member of the legendary "New York Sack Exchange" alongside Marty Lyons, Abdul Salaam, and Mark Gastineau. Their dominance on the defensive line made Klecko a household name among Jets fans. Revis, on the other hand, solidified his reputation as one of the best cornerbacks in the league during his tenure with the Jets. His ability to shut down top receivers earned him the respect and admiration of fans and players alike.

As they stood on the stage in Canton, Ohio, Joe Klecko and Darrelle Revis expressed their gratitude to their loved ones who had supported them throughout their journeys. Their stories serve as a reminder of the determination and resilience required to reach the pinnacle of success in the world of professional football.
