Car crashes into second floor of Pennsylvania house

14:41 08.08.2023

In a shocking incident that left neighbors stunned, a car crashed into the second floor of a house in Decatur Township, Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon. The Pennsylvania State Police reported that they responded to the scene of the vehicle crash at approximately 3:25 p.m. Authorities quickly determined that the crash was not accidental but rather "an intentional act." As a result, charges against the driver, identified as 20-year-old Evan Miller, are pending.

According to the Junction Fire Company, the car first went into a culvert located behind the house before landing on the roof. Dramatic photographs from the scene depict a grey Toyota Corolla lodged in the house, with its rear wheels hanging out of an upstairs room. The impact created a gaping hole in the home, resembling a scene straight out of an action movie.

Emergency crews, including the Junction Fire Company, arrived promptly to stabilize the house and rescue the driver. It took approximately three hours to safely remove the Toyota from the severely damaged home. The driver was then transported to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital for treatment.

Despite the gravity of the crash, there were no reported deaths. Miraculously, the occupants of the house emerged unscathed, thanks to the swift response of the Decatur Volunteer Fire Company. The homeowners were relieved that no one was harmed and expressed gratitude to the emergency crews for their assistance.

The incident has left many puzzled as to how such a crash could occur. While the exact details remain unclear, the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania website confirmed that charges had not been filed as of Tuesday afternoon. However, according to Pennsylvania State Police, the investigation found speed to be a factor in the crash.

The Junction Fire Company shared images of the crash on social media, showcasing the unbelievable scene. The photos depict the Corolla perched on the roof, with a smashed front end protruding through a dormer. Large splintered pieces of wood littered the roof and lawn below, evidence of the force of the impact. Inside the house, plaid-wallpapered walls were torn apart, and broken wood covered the floor. Despite the chaos, an old treadmill remained standing, while a bed lay flipped on its side.

Emergency crews worked diligently to stabilize the house, preventing any further collapse. They also assisted the homeowners in placing a tarp over the massive hole in the top corner of the house, preparing for upcoming storms.

While the exact circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation, the fire company informed WHTM that the car likely hit a small culvert adjacent to the home's driveway, propelling it into the air. Pennsylvania State Police investigators have since determined that the crash was an intentional act, adding further intrigue to the already perplexing incident.
