Utah man killed in FBI raid linked to alleged threats against Biden, VP Harris

16:51 09.08.2023

In a shocking turn of events, the FBI confirmed that one of its agents shot and killed a Utah man on Wednesday during a raid. According to a source, the raid was conducted due to the man's alleged threats against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and law enforcement officials. The shooting took place early in the morning as agents tried to serve arrest and search warrants at a residence in Provo, south of Salt Lake City.

While the FBI did not disclose the identity of the man or the reason for seeking his arrest, a federal complaint obtained by Reuters named the suspect as Craig Robertson. The complaint revealed that Robertson had posted online in September, calling for the assassination of Biden and Harris. Additionally, he made threats against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who was leading a criminal inquiry into former President Donald Trump, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.

One of the posts attached to the complaint showed that Robertson had expressed his intention to go to New York to "fulfill my dream of eradicating (eradicating)" Bragg. As a result, Robertson faced charges on three counts: interstate threats, threats against the president, and influencing, impeding, and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat.

The incident has raised concerns about the increase in political violence in recent years, with a Reuters report highlighting that it is at its worst since the 1970s. The shooting incident involving the FBI agents is currently under review, and the agency stated that it takes all such incidents involving its agents or task force members seriously.

In a separate report by NBC News, it was revealed that the investigation into the suspect's threats involved not just President Biden but also Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Charging documents indicated that Robertson had made threats against Bragg, calling him a political hack linked to George Soros and plotting to assassinate him in a parking garage.

The news of the shooting reached President Biden, who was briefed on the FBI raid before his scheduled events in New Mexico. The White House has referred all questions to the Justice Department regarding the incident. Despite the tragic event, President Biden is still expected to be in Utah for a public event on veterans' health care.

The FBI's statement regarding the shooting mentioned that the incident occurred during the execution of arrest and search warrants at a residence in Provo. The agency confirmed that the suspect died during the incident and that no agents were injured. The U.S. Secret Service also released a statement acknowledging the FBI's investigation into the individual in Utah who had exhibited threats towards a protectee.

As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges law enforcement agencies face in ensuring the safety of public officials and combating threats against them.
