Mother sues Georgia hospital over alleged childbirth decapitation

05:51 10.08.2023

A shocking incident has come to light at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia, as a lawsuit has been filed against the hospital following the alleged decapitation of a baby during delivery. The distressing incident has left the parents, Jessica Ross and her family, devastated and seeking justice for their loss.

The traumatic chain of events began on July 9 when Jessica Ross, 20, arrived at the hospital's emergency room after her water broke. Little did she know that this joyous occasion would soon turn into a nightmare. Ross began pushing at 8:40 p.m., but unfortunately, the baby's descent was halted due to a medical condition known as shoulder dystocia, where the baby's shoulders are unable to fit through the pelvic area.

The lawsuit claims that Dr. Tracey St. Julian, who is also named as a defendant, attempted various methods to deliver the baby vaginally, but these attempts allegedly included applying excessive force to the baby's head. Tragically, these forceful actions resulted in severe injuries to the baby, with the bones in the skull, face, and neck being broken.

After several hours of distress, at around 11:50 p.m., Dr. St. Julian made the decision to perform an emergency cesarean section. The baby's body and legs were successfully delivered at 12:11 a.m., followed by the unimaginable horror of the baby's head being delivered vaginally. Shockingly, the lawsuit alleges that Dr. St. Julian failed to inform Ross and her family about the decapitation, and the hospital purportedly discouraged the family from seeking an autopsy, instead suggesting immediate cremation of their son.

Even more troubling is the fact that no report of the alleged decapitation was ever made to the authorities. It was only when a funeral home flagged the death that the horrifying truth began to emerge. The lawsuit accuses Dr. St. Julian of gross negligence and failure to perform a timely and proper cesarean section, as well as the hospital of attempting to cover up the decapitation.

The hospital, in response to these grave allegations, denies any wrongdoing and asserts that Dr. St. Julian is not an employee of Southern Regional Medical Center. While the hospital cannot discuss patient care due to privacy laws, it did express its condolences to the grieving family and stated that appropriate steps have been taken in response to the situation.

The attorneys representing Jessica Ross and her partner have made strong accusations against the hospital, claiming that they attempted to conceal the decapitation by discouraging an autopsy and advocating for cremation. The lawsuit alleges gross negligence, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress on the part of the hospital and Dr. St. Julian.

The complaint seeks unspecified damages for the full value of the baby's life, highlighting the profound loss suffered by the family. As the legal battle unfolds, the community remains shocked and saddened by the tragic events that unfolded at Southern Regional Medical Center.
