Actor Tyrese Gibson Sues Home Depot for $1M Over Alleged Racial Discrimination

12:10 12.08.2023

Fast & Furious actor Tyrese Gibson has filed a lawsuit against Home Depot, alleging racial discrimination against himself and two of his workers during a visit to one of the company's stores. Seeking over $1 million in damages, Gibson claims that the incident occurred on February 11 at a Home Depot store in West Hills, California.

According to the lawsuit, Gibson and his two workers visited the store to purchase materials for a building project at his home. However, the situation escalated when the cashier took an unusually long time, approximately 20 minutes, to scan the items. As fans recognized Gibson, he became concerned about causing a disturbance and decided to wait in his car while his workers proceeded with the transaction.

Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when, allegedly, the workers were denied the ability to pay for the items by the cashier. Disturbed by the incident, Gibson returned to the store and provided identification to complete the purchase. The lawsuit contends that the actions of the cashier and the store manager were racially discriminatory, as no other plausible explanation can be found for their mistreatment.

Home Depot is accused in the lawsuit of refusing to accept responsibility for the incident, instead resorting to "doubling down" and "lawyering up." Gibson and his co-plaintiffs are demanding damages for the company's negligence in hiring, screening, training, supervising, and retaining the staff involved.

In response to the allegations, Home Depot released a statement emphasizing their commitment to treating all customers with respect and rejecting any form of discrimination. The company stated that they value Gibson as a customer and have attempted to resolve the issue by reaching out to him and his attorneys multiple times.

In a bid to raise awareness of the incident, Gibson shared a video from the encounter on social media. The video captures Gibson addressing the store employees, vowing to use his platform to empower the voiceless and fight against discriminatory practices and consumer racial profiling.

As the legal battle intensifies, all eyes will be on the outcome of Gibson's lawsuit against Home Depot, as it sheds light on the ongoing struggle against racial discrimination and the need for systemic change within corporate environments.
