Tech Titans Zuckerberg and Musk Clash over Italy's Colosseum

20:42 12.08.2023

In a clash of tech titans, billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk are gearing up for an epic showdown in Italy as their ongoing feud reaches new heights. The rivalry between these two influential figures in the tech world has been simmering ever since Zuckerberg launched his social network, Threads, which directly competes with Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter.

The feud escalated in June when Musk initially challenged Zuckerberg to a fight, a challenge that Zuckerberg eagerly accepted. In a recent post on Threads, Zuckerberg expressed his excitement for the upcoming battle, stating, "I love this sport, and I've been ready to fight since the day Elon challenged me. If he ever agrees on an actual date, you'll hear it from me. Until then, please assume anything he says has not been agreed on." To demonstrate his preparedness, Zuckerberg even shared an image of himself sparring in his "backyard octagon."

Not one to back down, Musk has been diligently preparing for the fight as well. He has been training in Brazilian jiujitsu, hoping to gain an advantage over his opponent. Musk announced that the fight would be overseen by their respective foundations rather than the UFC, and it would be livestreamed on the platforms X and Meta.

The highly anticipated event has sparked intense speculation regarding its location, with Musk finally confirming that it would be set in an ancient Roman setting in Italy. The Italian government has now revealed that they have agreed upon an "epic location" to host the event. The selection process involved the Italian culture ministry and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. While the exact location remains undisclosed, experts suggest potential historical sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, or the ancient amphitheatre in Verona. Musk hinted at possible locations by tweeting, "Get ready for the Fisticuffs in Florence or the Venom in Venice. Just not the Rumble in Rome." This indicates that Rome, despite its historical significance, has been ruled out as a venue.

Despite the intense rivalry, both Zuckerberg and Musk are determined to make the fight a charitable event. All proceeds from the showdown will go to veterans and pediatric hospitals. Musk also revealed that subscribers to his platform, Twitter Blue, would receive bonus material. The Italian culture minister, Gennaro Sangiuliano, expressed great enthusiasm for the event, highlighting that it would be a "large charitable and historically evocative event." However, there have been setbacks in the planning process. Italian officials clarified that the fight would not be held in Rome, contrary to Musk's initial idea. Sangiuliano confirmed that discussions were ongoing to organize the event in a historical setting while ensuring the preservation of the sites.

Both Zuckerberg and Musk have displayed their enthusiasm for the upcoming battle. Zuckerberg has been training in MMA gyms since September, displaying his dedication to physical preparation. On the other hand, Musk, despite having a size advantage, revealed a shoulder problem that may require surgery and potentially impact his performance.

As anticipation continues to build, the tech world eagerly awaits the announcement of the official date and location for the Zuckerberg-Musk showdown in Italy. This clash of tech titans promises to be a historic event, transporting viewers back in time while raising funds for worthy causes.
