Trump Team Linked to Georgia Voting System Breach, Grand Jury Investigation Underway

09:31 13.08.2023

Georgia prosecutors are in possession of text messages and other communications that directly link members of Donald Trump's legal team, including Rudy Giuliani, to a breach of voting systems in the state, according to a report on Sunday. The messages could play a central role in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' grand jury presentation this week in connection with her election fraud case against Trump. The text messages reveal that Trump's team was seeking access to voting systems in Coffee County, a heavily Republican county in Georgia, as early as mid-December. The invitation to access the county's systems was supposedly written by Misty Hampton, a former Coffee County elections official who had falsely claimed that Dominion voting machines could easily flip votes. The messages suggest that Trump's team, including Giuliani, was desperate to delay certification of Joe Biden's victory in an attempt to overturn the election results. Hampton and another elections official, Cathy Latham, allegedly helped Trump's team access the voting systems. The breach of the Coffee County voting system is now a central part of the investigation into election interference by Willis' office. This could result in Trump facing his fourth criminal case this year, on top of the conspiracy and obstruction charges he already faces in connection with the Capitol riots. Meanwhile, Willis is set to present her case to a grand jury, which includes testimony from former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who confirmed that he has been asked to testify. Trump responded to the news, launching a blistering counter-attack against Willis and calling her a Phoney who presides over one of the deadliest communities in the U.S. Trump also claimed that the investigation against him is a "campaign and fundraising con job." If indicted, Trump would have to follow "normal practices," including taking a mug shot, according to Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat. However, Trump has vowed to fight any potential indictment, maintaining that he did nothing wrong.
