Faith-Filled Christian Song Rescues US Nurse and Child

05:45 14.08.2023

American nurse Alix Dorsainvil and her young daughter have been released after a terrifying abduction at gunpoint from a Christian-run school near Haiti's capital city of Port-au-Prince. The Christian aid organization founded by Dorsainvil's husband, El Roi Haiti, confirmed that both mother and child were freed and are in good health, bringing relief to their loved ones and supporters who have been anxiously praying for their safe return.

During their time in captivity, Dorsainvil expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support they received. She revealed that the Christian song "See a Victory" by the Elevation Worship music collective became her rallying cry and source of strength. The song's lyrics, "You take what the enemy meant for evil, and you turn it for good," resonated deeply with Dorsainvil during her ordeal, offering her hope and reminding her of the power of faith.

However, the incident sheds light on the dangerous situation in Haiti, where armed gunmen target innocent individuals for financial gain. Haiti has been plagued by a rise in gang violence since the assassination of President Jovenel Mo??se in 2021. Criminal control of the country has worsened, leading to a sharp increase in incidents of violence, including killings, rape, and kidnappings. According to a local nonprofit, there have been 539 kidnappings in Haiti since January, marking a significant surge compared to previous years.

It remains unclear whether a ransom was paid for Dorsainvil and her daughter's release. The details surrounding their liberation have not been disclosed by the authorities. The US State Department welcomed their release, but no further information was provided, with the emphasis on ensuring the safety and security of US citizens abroad.

The El Roi clinic, where Dorsainvil was taken from, is located outside Port-au-Prince and had previously been warned against by the US government due to the high risk of kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and inadequate healthcare infrastructure in Haiti. The incident further underscores the urgent need for increased security measures and support in the country to protect innocent individuals like Dorsainvil and her daughter.

Alix Dorsainvil's husband, Sandro Dorsainvil, serves as the director of El Roi Haiti, and the couple has been actively involved in serving the community. Their abduction has shaken the local and international community, highlighting the vulnerability of those working in charitable organizations and the urgent action needed to address the escalating violence in Haiti.

Now that Dorsainvil and her daughter have been freed, the focus shifts towards their healing and recovery process as they navigate the aftermath of this traumatic experience. Support from their loved ones, the Christian community, and the wider public will be crucial in helping them rebuild their lives and find solace after enduring such a harrowing ordeal.
