California Marine Charged with Sexually Assaulting Missing Teen Found at Camp Pendleton

14:07 17.08.2023

In a shocking development, a California Marine has been charged with the sexual assault of a minor. The Marine was identified as Private First Class Avery L. Rosario during a court hearing on Thursday. This disturbing incident occurred at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, California, where the missing 14-year-old girl was found on June 28, more than two weeks after her grandmother reported her missing to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Rosario, who has been detained since the incident, is not only facing charges related to the sexual assault of a minor but also a charge involving a prior incident. Captain Charles Palmer of the 1st Marine Logistics Group issued a statement on Friday, confirming the charges. "Military prosecutors have charged the Marine with allegations of sexual assault of a minor and violating liberty restriction from a prior unrelated case," Palmer said. He further added that after the preliminary hearing, the command will thoroughly review all charges and evidence to determine whether the case should proceed to court-martial.

During the court hearing at Camp Pendleton, it was revealed that Rosario is being charged with the sexual assault of a child between the ages of 12 and 16. The government presented several exhibits, including evidence of activity on social media platforms such as Tinder, Instagram, and text messages involving Rosario. These exhibits shed light on the Marine's online interactions and potential connections to the victim.

Additionally, Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) conducted interviews with Rosario and his roommate, which were also presented as evidence during the hearing. It was brought to light that Rosario is facing charges of breaching restriction requirements, specifically leaving the base and using a non-government vehicle while under restriction.

The circumstances surrounding how the Marine met the teenage girl and how she gained access to the base have not been disclosed at this time. However, this case has left many questions unanswered. The girl's family had reported her missing, and her disappearance had raised concerns about potential involvement with sex trafficking. Fortunately, she has since been returned to her grandmother in suburban Spring Valley, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

As this story continues to unfold, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and check back for any updates. The preliminary hearing, scheduled for August 17, will play a crucial role in determining the next steps in this case. The gravity of the charges against Rosario, coupled with the potential harm inflicted on a minor, calls for a thorough investigation and a fair trial if the case proceeds to court-martial.
