Deadly Shooting at Massachusetts Party Leaves 1 Dead, 6 Injured

18:51 02.09.2023

Seven people were shot, one fatally, at a bon voyage party in Lynn, Massachusetts, according to officials. The incident occurred just north of Boston and left the police arriving at a chaotic scene. Essex District Attorney Paul F. Tucker confirmed that one person was dead, two were in critical condition, and four others had non-life-threatening injuries. The victim identified by Lynn resident Brian Diaz was his 25-year-old brother, Abraham Diaz, who tragically lost his life to gun violence. Diaz set up a GoFundMe page to cover his brother's memorial and funeral expenses, describing Abraham as a great young man who always helped others. The shooting took place around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday when Lynn police received a call about multiple gunshots at a social gathering on Essex Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately started providing aid to the seven victims, who had been shot. The prosecutor, Paul F. Tucker, referred to the incident as a "terrible act of violence" that had deeply impacted the neighborhood and the city. He stated that the shots had been fired from a vehicle, indicating that the attack was likely targeted rather than random. As of now, no suspects have been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing by the Essex County District Attorney's office and Lynn Police.

A neighbor recounted hearing at least ten gunshots, screeching tires, and people screaming. The shooting occurred in a parking lot where a party was taking place. Lynn Police Chief Christopher Reddy expressed the commitment to hold those responsible accountable, emphasizing that no family should have to endure the loss of a loved one in such circumstances. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to the shooting.

Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson extended his condolences to the victims' families, describing the incident as "absolutely outrageous." He expressed his shock and horror over the level of violence happening in their streets and neighborhood. Lynn, with a population of approximately 100,000, is located just four miles north of the Boston city line.
