Fourth-grade teacher and mother of two charged with raping boy, 12, at her Tennessee home: 'It's unspeakable'

In a shocking and disturbing case out of Tennessee, a 38-year-old teacher has been arrested and charged with raping a 12-year-old boy and engaging in sexual misconduct with multiple juveniles. Alissa McCommon, a fourth-grade teacher at Challenger Academy in Covington, was taken into custody on Friday after being under investigation for allegations of inappropriate contact with children under the age of 18.

The investigation began when the Tennessee Department of Children's Services contacted the Covington Police Department last month regarding reports of sexual misconduct involving a teacher and a former student. Following this tip, McCommon was suspended without pay on August 24th after a concerned parent came forward with allegations of abuse.

According to police, the investigation revealed that McCommon had befriended several former students online, engaging in video games and social media interactions. However, these seemingly innocent connections quickly morphed into something much more sinister. Police allege that McCommon began sending inappropriate photographs and soliciting sexual relations with the victims.

Covington Police Chief Donna Turner stated that McCommon is accused of having a sexual encounter with a boy aged 12 or younger at her home in 2021. This deeply troubling revelation has left the community in shock and disbelief. Chief Turner emphasized the dedication of the police detectives to investigate and uncover the full extent of this exploitation and abuse of young boys, expressing their intention to hold all responsible parties accountable.

It is important to note that authorities have found no evidence to suggest that any of these alleged activities took place on school grounds. However, during the course of the investigation, McCommon did admit to engaging in inappropriate communication with former students, further solidifying the severity of the allegations.

McCommon's attorneys have maintained her innocence, describing the situation as a potential "witch hunt" fueled by social media. Defense attorney Jere Mason is urging the public to be patient and allow the justice system to carry out its duties without adding further persecution to either the alleged victims or the defendant's family.

In light of her arrest, McCommon has been charged with rape of a child and is currently being held on a $25,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on October 13th. The Tipton County Sheriff's Office is collaborating with the Covington Police Department in gathering evidence to ensure a thorough investigation.

The community has been left reeling from these disturbing allegations, and parents are expressing their frustration that action was not taken earlier. Bianca Taylor, a parent with a student in McCommon's class, voiced her concerns in a Facebook group, stating, "Now y'all want to take matters of it. You should have done that in the beginning of time when you first found out about it."

As this case evolves, it is crucial to remember that the wellbeing of the victims remains a top priority for law enforcement. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to uncovering the truth and bringing justice to all those affected by this horrifying situation.
