Raiders' Chandler Jones on Non-Football Illness List Following Bizarre Social Media Activity

21:49 20.09.2023

Las Vegas Raiders' defensive end, Chandler Jones, has been placed on the non-football illness list indefinitely as he deals with personal issues, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. This move follows a series of bizarre social media posts by Jones, in which he criticized Raiders owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler, and head coach Josh McDaniels.

Jones has been inactive for the first two weeks of the season and has not participated in any team practices this month. The organization has labeled the situation as a personal matter, and McDaniels refused to provide any further details when questioned by reporters.

The controversy began over Labor Day weekend when Jones took to Instagram to express his frustration. He claimed that he had been barred from the Raiders' facility and accused the team of contacting one of his children's mothers, with whom he is no longer in a relationship. Jones also stated, "F-k it, I don't want to play for the Raiders if that's my [head coach] or [general manager]."

Things took a more peculiar turn when Jones alleged that his social media accounts had been hacked following a string of posts on X (formerly Twitter). These posts accused the Raiders of keeping him away from the team due to an alleged case of child abuse involving a family friend's daughter. Jones later apologized for the mix-up.

Jones, a 12-year veteran, has raised concerns within the Raiders organization and throughout the league with his social media tirades. As a result, the Raiders made the decision to place him on the non-football illness list, providing him with the time and space to address his personal issues.

The 33-year-old pass rusher, who signed a three-year deal with Las Vegas, had an impressive season last year, recording 4.5 sacks. However, his recent actions have cast doubt on his overall health and stability, leaving the Raiders and others around the league concerned for his well-being.

Throughout his career, Jones has accumulated 112 sacks in 154 games. He began his NFL journey with the New England Patriots, who selected him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Jones won a Super Bowl with the Patriots before being traded to the Arizona Cardinals in 2015. After seven seasons with the Cardinals, he joined the Raiders in 2020.
