Nick Chubb's Injury Not as Severe as Feared: Report

01:39 24.09.2023

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb suffered a torn MCL during Monday night's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to an ESPN report on Saturday. The injury occurred when Chubb was hit low by Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, causing his left leg to bend in a gruesome manner. Although the injury is significant, doctors have determined that it is not career-ending. Chubb's ACL was stretched but not torn, and he is expected to recover in six to eight months.

The hit on Chubb has sparked controversy, with some labeling it as "dirty." However, Fitzpatrick defended himself, stating that he is a chippy and edgy player but not a dirty one. He expressed his respect for Chubb as a player and emphasized the competitiveness between them over the years. Fitzpatrick's tackle ended Chubb's season, leaving the Browns without a running back who has consistently recorded over 1,000 yards in each of the last four seasons.

In response to Chubb's absence, the Browns announced that Jerome Ford will serve as the feature back, and they have also re-signed Kareem Hunt to strengthen their backfield. Hunt, who played with the Browns for the past four years, was not signed after the 2022 season due to concerns about his diminished speed.

The loss of Chubb is a significant blow to the Browns, who now face the challenge of competing without their star running back. Chubb had already accumulated 170 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards in the first two games of the season. Despite this setback, the Browns are determined to face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Following initial tests, it was revealed that Chubb had torn his MCL but not his ACL, providing a more positive outlook than initially expected. The injury occurred during a goal-line carry when Fitzpatrick delivered a low hit that caused Chubb's left leg to bend unnaturally. The severity of the injury led the Browns to announce that Chubb's season was likely over. However, further tests indicated that the injury is not career-threatening.

Chubb is expected to undergo surgery this week, with the hope that no additional damage is found. The recovery period is projected to be around six to eight months. Despite the controversy surrounding Fitzpatrick's tackle, he defended his decision to go low, citing the fast-paced nature of the game and the split-second decision-making required. He expressed his regret for the outcome and wished Chubb a speedy recovery, acknowledging his impact on the game.

The Browns suffered a 26-22 loss to the Steelers on Monday night and now face the Titans in their upcoming game. Chubb's absence will undoubtedly have an impact on the team, as they rely on his consistent performance, but they are determined to overcome this setback and continue their season.
