US Congressional Committee to Hold Biden Impeachment Inquiry Hearing

11:34 28.09.2023

Republican legislators in the United States have begun the first hearing of their impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, with allegations of corruption against the Biden family taking center stage. The House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing, led by Republican chair James Comer, aims to uncover evidence of financial gain by the Bidens through their public office. Comer accused President Biden of lying to the American people about his involvement in his family's corrupt business schemes.

Republicans have long sought an investigation into the Biden family's affairs, but Democrats have dismissed the impeachment push as politically motivated and lacking evidence. The White House has also rejected the corruption allegations, labeling the inquiry as "extreme politics at its worst." House Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed House committees to initiate the impeachment process earlier this month, citing a "culture of corruption" surrounding the Bidens.

The first hearing of the impeachment inquiry will focus on constitutional and legal questions. Chairman Jim Comer stated that the committee will present the evidence collected thus far and hear from legal and financial experts regarding potential crimes committed by the Bidens. President Biden has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has called the Republican impeachment push a "baseless inquiry" that they cannot defend.

The Republican-led impeachment inquiry primarily centers around Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings and allegations that he used his family name to further his business interests. Republicans argue that President Biden himself profited from his son's business ventures. With the House of Representatives holding their first hearing, the investigation into the Biden family's alleged corruption is set to intensify.
