Matt LaFleur has blunt assessment of Packers' disastrous loss to Lions: 'We got our ass kicked'

The Green Bay Packers suffered a brutal defeat against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night, trailing 27-3 at halftime. Head coach Matt LaFleur did not hold back in his assessment of the game, acknowledging that the Lions had completely dominated them. "They manhandled us," LaFleur admitted during his postgame press conference. The Lions' defense proved to be formidable, holding the Packers to a mere 27 rushing yards, while Detroit managed to accumulate 211 rushing yards. The passing game for Green Bay was not much better, with quarterback Jordan Love throwing for 246 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

LaFleur commended the effort of his team in the second half, stating that he had challenged them during halftime to continue competing. However, he also acknowledged that there were significant areas for improvement. The inability to effectively run the football and stop the Lions' rushing attack proved to be detrimental to the Packers' chances of success. LaFleur emphasized the credit that should be given to the Lions for their strong performance, acknowledging that they were a formidable opponent who had outplayed them in every aspect of the game.

The halftime deficit of 27-3 was a significant blow to the Packers, and LaFleur was asked about it during his postgame remarks. Visibly frustrated, LaFleur responded, "You saw it... I mean, we got our a- kicked. If I knew, it wouldn't have happened." He further expressed his displeasure with the question, labeling it as a "BS question."

The Lions' victory over the Packers marked their fourth consecutive win against their NFC North rivals. The 24-point lead they held in the first half was the highest-scoring performance they had ever achieved against Green Bay in the history of their 188-game series. LaFleur acknowledged the humiliation of being down 27-3 at halftime and recognized that no one was feeling sorry for them. He admitted that everything, including the game plan, fell short of expectations.

With the loss, the Packers' record dropped to 2-2. LaFleur expressed dissatisfaction with his team's performance, bluntly stating, "We got our ass kicked." The first half proved to be especially challenging for the Packers, as they only gained one yard in the entire first quarter and were outgained 284-21 by the Lions.

Despite a few scoring drives in the second half, including one aided by a missed call by the officials, the Packers were unable to overcome the Lions' dominance. The Lions, now sitting atop the NFC North with a record of 3-1, proved to be a formidable opponent.

The absence of left tackle David Bakhtiari, who was placed on injured reserve before the game, significantly impacted the Packers' ability to contain the Lions' pass rush. Quarterback Jordan Love was sacked five times throughout the game. Additionally, the Packers struggled on the ground, only managing to accumulate 27 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Looking ahead, the Packers will face the Raiders in Week 5 on "Monday Night Football." The team will need to regroup and make necessary adjustments to bounce back from the devastating loss.
