Unveiling Duane 'Keefe D' Davis: The Man Charged in Tupac Shakur's Murder

13:14 30.09.2023

In a shocking turn of events, Duane Keefe D Davis has finally been arrested and charged with the murder of famed rapper Tupac Shakur, almost three decades after the tragic incident occurred. Tupac's stepbrother, Mopreme Shakur, expressed both relief and frustration at the long-awaited arrest, questioning why it took so long for authorities to take action.

Mopreme Shakur, speaking to The Post, expressed his disbelief that Davis had been free for so many years, even capitalizing on his brother's death by giving interviews and writing a book about his involvement. He expressed his numbness at the curious timing of the arrest, questioning why it had taken 27 years for justice to be served. Davis had consistently claimed that he was present in the car when his nephew, Orlando Anderson, shot Tupac.

During a press conference in Las Vegas, Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo described Davis as the "on-ground, on-site commander" and "shot caller" who ordered Tupac's death. Davis was indicted by a Nevada grand jury on one count of murder with a deadly weapon and a gang enhancement. His arrest came after a raid on his Henderson, Nevada home in July, where police confiscated several computers, laptops, iPads, and .40 caliber cartridges.

In his memoir, "Compton Street Legend," Davis admitted to being in the white Cadillac with Anderson and two others when they approached Tupac's vehicle on the night of September 7, 1996, and opened fire. Davis claimed that the shooting was retaliation for Tupac and his entourage beating up Anderson earlier that night after a Mike Tyson boxing match. Davis has asserted that Anderson pulled the trigger, but Mopreme Shakur wants to know more about the motive and any other possible accomplices.

One of the key frustrations expressed by Mopreme Shakur is the fact that Davis had used his brother's name and death to gain attention over the years, showing a blatant disregard for Tupac's memory. Mopreme emphasized the importance of seeking justice for his brother, who he describes as the greatest rapper of all time and an icon. He also expressed his intention to be present in court when the trial begins, although he admitted to being unsure of how he would react when faced with Davis.

The arrest of Davis has brought some closure to the long-standing mystery of Tupac's murder. The case had remained unsolved for almost three decades, with numerous theories and documentaries attempting to shed light on what truly happened. Davis, who has openly spoken about his involvement to various media outlets, finally faces legal consequences for his alleged role in the drive-by shooting.

While Davis is the last living suspect in the case, prosecutors acknowledge that there are still some gaps in the evidence. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated that Davis will appear in court in the coming days to determine his custody status and set a trial date. The case has garnered global attention, and authorities are cautious about making any missteps in the high-profile investigation.

The murder of Tupac Shakur remains a significant event in the history of rap and continues to captivate the public's attention. Tupac's death came amidst a feud with rival rapper Biggie Smalls, also known as the Notorious B.I.G., whose murder also remains unsolved. The arrest of Davis brings hope that justice may finally be served, but the case still leaves many unanswered questions.
