49ers' Armstead Mocks Jones, Seahawks' Witherspoon Shares Alarming Scouting Report

09:42 03.10.2023

In a shocking turn of events, the Giants' quarterback, Daniel Jones, is facing mounting criticism from his peers in the NFL. After a dismal performance against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, in which Jones was sacked a staggering 11 times, it seems that even fellow players are piling on the quarterback. Seahawks cornerback, Devon Witherspoon, who had a game-sealing pick-six in Seattle's 24-3 victory, revealed that the Seahawks exploited Jones' tendency to stare down his first target.

"We were just trusting the game plan the coach laid out for us. We knew he liked to stare down his first target," Witherspoon told NFL Network after the game. "So he had his back turned, and a lot of guys were winning their one-on-one matchups up front. Shoutout to our d-line, without them, we couldn't have made the plays we made."

This revelation raises concerns about Jones' ability to read defenses and make smart decisions on the field. The fact that a $160 million quarterback is considered a one-read signal caller is certainly a bad look for Jones and the Giants. Witherspoon's comments may be tame compared to the remarks made by the San Francisco 49ers after their win against the Giants in Week 3, but it still shows that Jones is not highly regarded by his peers.

49ers defensive end, Arik Armstead, took to social media to mock Jones for his poor performance, posting on X (formerly Twitter), "Daniel Jones, I am so disappointed in you... why would you throw the ball so quick vs us and then let these people have a career day? Why weren't we deserving?" Armstead's comments highlight the frustration felt by opposing players towards Jones and the Giants.

It didn't help that the Giants' offensive line provided little resistance to the Seahawks' relentless pass rush. The Seahawks seemingly shut down Jones' top target, Darren Waller, who only managed three catches for 21 yards. The Giants' offense was left helpless, and when Jones did have time, he made costly mistakes. One such mistake was a pass intended for Parris Campbell that Witherspoon intercepted and returned for a 97-yard touchdown, extending Seattle's lead to 21-3 in the third quarter. Jones acknowledged his error, calling it a "terrible decision" and an "awful mistake."

Jones' struggles against the Seahawks were a continuation of his lackluster performances throughout the season. He finished the game with 27 completions on 203 yards, failing to throw a touchdown pass for the third time this season. His only two touchdown throws came in a comeback win against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.

Acknowledging his poor performance, Jones expressed his disappointment, saying, "Obviously, I didn't play well enough. It was unacceptable, and I let the team down. I've got to fix it. I've got to work hard to get it right, and I'm going to do that."

This criticism comes on the heels of the Giants' loss to the 49ers in the previous week, where Jones also struggled. He completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for only 137 yards and threw another interception. Remarkably, Jones has thrown at least one interception in each of the first four games of the season.

It is clear that Jones' poor performances and inability to protect the football have not gone unnoticed by his peers. The mounting criticism from fellow players raises questions about his future as the Giants' franchise quarterback and puts pressure on him to improve his game. For now, Jones must regroup, address his weaknesses, and work hard to regain the trust and respect of his teammates and opponents alike.
