Indianapolis Art Teacher Found Dead in Puerto Rico Search

02:00 15.10.2023

In a tragic turn of events, authorities in Puerto Rico have discovered a woman's lifeless body during their search for 44-year-old Amanda Lynn Webster, an art teacher from Indianapolis who went missing during her trip to the island. The Puerto Rico Police announced on Saturday that they had found a body "upside down floating in a rocky area," but did not publicly identify the woman found. However, sources have confirmed to FOX59 that it was indeed Amanda Webster.

The news of Amanda's tragic death was shared by her devastated mother, Pamela, on social media late Saturday. She wrote, "They just found Amanda's body in the river, she had been underwater for some time." The circumstances surrounding Amanda's death remain a mystery, leaving her loved ones searching for answers and closure.

Authorities had previously appealed to the public for help in locating Amanda after she was reported missing on Wednesday. The landlord of the guest house she was staying at raised the alarm when Amanda failed to check out and left behind all her belongings and rented car. Concerned about her sudden disappearance, Puerto Rican police initiated a search effort, mobilizing State Emergency Management staff, the Criminal Investigation Corps of the Police, and the U.S. Forest Service to aid in the search for the missing teacher.

Amanda was last seen at the Casa Parcha guest house near El Yunque National Park in Naguabo, a breathtaking tropical rainforest in northeastern Puerto Rico. The park boasts picturesque trails leading to the stunning La Mina waterfall and Mount Britton, attracting tourists from around the world. It was in this area that the body was discovered, in a river where the police had been diligently searching for Amanda.

As of late Saturday afternoon, authorities had not officially confirmed whether the body found was indeed Amanda Webster's. They also did not comment on whether foul play was suspected. In a translated Facebook post, Puerto Rican police stated, "At this stage, it is not possible to identify the gender of the body or conclude if it shows signs of violence." The investigation is ongoing as the police, the Criminal Investigation Corps, and the Forensic Institute work together to extract and identify the body.

Upon learning of Amanda's disappearance, Puerto Rican police immediately activated an "Ashanti Alert," a missing persons alert specifically for adults aged 18-64 who could be in danger or have a proven disability. The disappearance of Amanda Webster is now being thoroughly investigated by the Criminal Investigation Corps of the Police, State Emergency Management staff, and the U.S. Forest Service.

In a touching Facebook post prior to her daughter's disappearance, Pamela Webster had expressed her love and admiration for Amanda on "National Daughter's Day." She wrote, "I didn't know that there was a daughter's day. Sorry I missed it, but everyday [sic] is daughter's day in my life since the day you were born. Love you to the moon and back forever and ever." Now, Pamela must face the devastating reality of her daughter's untimely death.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to Amanda Webster's disappearance and death to come forward and contact them at 787-343-2020 or call 911. The community's support and prayers have been deeply appreciated by the grieving family, as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
