Woman returns from vacation to discover Atlanta home mistakenly demolished

03:09 23.10.2023

A homeowner in Atlanta, Susan Hodgson, was left devastated after returning from vacation to find her long-time family property demolished. The shocking incident came to light when a neighbor called Hodgson to inquire about workers tearing down her property. Confused and alarmed, Hodgson rushed back home only to discover a pile of rubble where her house once stood.

In an interview with WAGA-TV, Hodgson expressed her frustration, stating, "I'm just left with a big ol' mess." She recounted how the neighbor had confronted the workers, only to be met with dismissive and rude comments. This prompted Hodgson to send a family member to assess the situation and request a permit from the workers.

To her astonishment, one of the workers admitted that they had made a grave mistake and had demolished the wrong address. The house, which had been unoccupied for years, was well-maintained with boarded windows, a manicured lawn, and up-to-date taxes. Hodgson couldn't fathom how someone could believe they had the right to destroy her property without remorse or repercussions. "They didn't give me nothing," she lamented.

Hodgson firmly believes that the company responsible owes her an apology and should take immediate action to rectify the situation. However, she claims to have received no communication from them thus far. The Associated Press tried to contact the company, but they did not respond.

The aftermath of this unfortunate incident has left Hodgson contemplating her next course of action. She is considering seeking legal advice and has already filed a police report. The concern for potential damage to gas or water lines during the demolition weighs heavily on her mind.

The company behind the demolition, You Call It We Haul It, has issued a statement to WAGA-TV, stating that they are conducting an investigation and working towards resolving the mishap. However, their lack of immediate action and failure to return calls further exacerbates Hodgson's distress.

As the homeowner grapples with the emotional and logistical challenges caused by the mistaken demolition, she hopes for a resolution that includes an apology and reparations from the company. Until then, she remains determined to fight for justice and make sure no one else experiences such a devastating loss.
