Former “Full House” star, John Stamos, has opened up about his battle with alcoholism and the impact it had on his memory. Stamos, 60, revealed that during his peak of alcoholism, he couldn't even recall being on the movie set of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2." He admitted that after his arrest for driving under the influence in 2015, he had forgotten that he was supposed to be in the film. Stamos played Rita Wilson's Greek-American boyfriend in the movie. Reflecting on that time, Stamos shared that it was his close family and friends who forced him to go to rehab after he returned from filming.
Stamos, who has been sober for eight years, also spoke candidly about hitting "rock bottom" during his battle with alcoholism. He mentioned that the lowest point in his life was marked by a series of events, including the deaths of his parents and his divorce from ex-wife Rebecca Romijn. In his tell-all memoir, "If You Would Have Told Me," Stamos described his divorce as “shattering” and admitted that he hated Romijn for a long time after their marriage fell apart.
The publication of Stamos' memoir brought attention not only to his struggles with alcoholism but also to his tumultuous relationship with Romijn. Romijn's current husband, Jerry O'Connell, revealed that they found out about the memoir at the same time as the public and that Romijn had not received any warning about its release. O'Connell declined to comment further on the details of the divorce or his reaction to them, stating that it was not his place to speak about it. He did mention that he and Romijn are currently getting along well.
Stamos recently confessed that he felt “emasculated” during his marriage to Romijn as her career took off. He admitted that he neglected his own career and didn't believe the marriage would work out. Romijn, on the other hand, shared that going through a divorce was heartbreaking but that she still had fond memories of Stamos. She acknowledged that ending a marriage is a difficult decision and that there were many sad things she had to let go of.
Despite the challenges they faced in their past relationship, Stamos has found happiness with model Caitlin McHugh. The couple, who met in 2016, got married in February 2018 and now have a 5-year-old son together. Stamos has expressed gratitude for the support of his family and friends in helping him overcome his struggles and find happiness in his personal life.
