Maine families are left grappling with unanswered questions as they grieve their loved ones who were victims of the deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year. The body of Robert Card, the US Army reservist accused of carrying out the shooting, was found on Friday evening with a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a recycling facility box trailer, about 10 miles away from Lewiston where the shootings took place. The rampage at a bowling alley and a restaurant left 18 people dead and 13 others wounded. After a 48-hour manhunt, the city of Lewiston and surrounding communities can finally begin to mourn. Elizabeth Seal, whose husband Joshua was killed in the shootings, expressed her mixed emotions, stating, "I wanted him to be apprehended. I wanted to ask questions that will not be answered... Why did you do this? What was the motive? Why would you hurt so many families?" Authorities are still working to uncover the motive behind the attack and the exact timing of Card's death.

Despite the grief and unanswered questions, some victims' families feel a sense of relief that the suspect has been found dead. Rob Young, who lost his brother and nephew in the shooting, stated, "No 'why' would ever bring my brother and my nephew back... We didn't want to sit through a trial. We don't want to see all the gruesome details." Tammy Asselin, a survivor whose cousin was killed in the shooting, also expressed her relief that the community can now move on without the fear of the gunman still being out there. However, she acknowledged that many questions will remain unanswered.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the deadly attack. The FBI is reviewing the suspect's social media presence to identify possible motives and additional attack plans. Law enforcement sources have stated that Card recently broke up with a longtime girlfriend, leading investigators to believe that he targeted the bowling alley and the restaurant because they were places the couple used to frequent. A search warrant was executed at Card's home to gather evidence related to the shootings. Card's family has been cooperative with investigators, but they have received threats due to Card's actions.

The 18 victims of the shooting rampage have been identified, ranging in age from 14 to 76. They include a young boy who was bowling with his father, participants in a cornhole tournament for the deaf, and fathers who left behind young children. Five injured victims are still hospitalized, three of them in critical condition.

Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline expressed his focus on healing the city and restoring normalcy as quickly as possible. He stated, "The violence that happened this past Wednesday was senseless and tragic, but we will be okay. Lewiston is a strong city full of resilient people."

The discovery of Card's body has brought a sense of relief to the grieving community, but the journey towards healing and closure will be a long and difficult one. As the investigation into the motive continues, the community must come together to support one another and find strength in their resilience.
