Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg undergoes knee surgery after MMA training injury

11:03 05.11.2023

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms and a mixed martial arts enthusiast, has recently undergone surgery after tearing one of his anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) during martial arts training. Zuckerberg shared the news on social media, posting a photo on Instagram showing him lying in a hospital bed with his left knee elevated, bandaged, and fitted with a brace. He expressed his gratitude to the medical team taking care of him and assured his followers that he is still looking forward to competing in a MMA fight after he recovers from the injury.

This is not the first time Zuckerberg has shared updates on his martial arts training. Just a few weeks ago, he posted a close-up photo on Instagram showing bruising on the bridge of his nose and under his eyes, which he attributed to sparring that got "a little out of hand." Zuckerberg's passion for MMA has even led to a highly publicized potential match between him and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Zuckerberg and Musk sparked interest in their potential face-off through online jabs at each other, with Musk boasting about his weightlifting training. However, in August, Musk mentioned on social media that he might need surgery before the fight could take place. Zuckerberg, seemingly frustrated with the lack of progress, posted on the Threads social media app that he was ready to move on and focus on competing with those who take the sport seriously.

The anterior cruciate ligaments, located inside the knee, provide stability to the knee joint. Tearing an ACL can be a significant injury, requiring surgery to replace the damaged ligament. Zuckerberg's torn ACL has resulted in his recent surgery and will likely require a period of recovery and rehabilitation.

Zuckerberg's interest in MMA is not new. In May, he completed his first jiu-jitsu tournament, where he won a gold and silver medal, as he proudly shared on Facebook.

The clash between Zuckerberg and Musk has been the subject of much speculation and anticipation. However, it appears that the fight may never materialize, with Zuckerberg accusing Musk of not being serious about the match and expressing his willingness to move on. Despite the disappointment, Zuckerberg remains focused on his recovery and is grateful for the support and love he has received from his followers.

Meta Platforms, the company Zuckerberg leads, has not yet commented on his injury. As Zuckerberg takes the time to heal and regain his strength, the tech mogul's fans and followers eagerly await his return to the MMA arena.
