A human skull found in the Halloween section of a charity shop in Florida has sparked an investigation by local authorities. The eerie discovery was made by an alert anthropologist who was browsing the store on Saturday. Upon spotting the skull, the anthropologist suspected it belonged to a human and promptly alerted officials. Detectives from the Lee County Sheriff's Office visited the store and agreed with the anthropologist's assessment, deeming it likely to be a human skull.

According to the store owner, the skull had been in a storage unit after being purchased several years ago. Although the police do not believe the case to be suspicious, they are taking the discovery seriously. The North Fort Myers Police, along with the local medical examiner, will be conducting further investigations and tests on the skull to determine its origin and any potential significance.

In light of the discovery, the Lee County Sheriff's Office took a lighthearted approach on social media, describing the situation as a "twist of not-so-humerus events." However, it is crucial to note that under Florida law, it is illegal to offer or sell any human organ or tissue for valuable consideration. This statute encompasses various body parts such as eyes, corneas, kidneys, livers, hearts, lungs, pancreases, bones, and skin.

Interestingly, this is not the first time a human skull has been found under unusual circumstances in a thrift store. In September, a similar discovery was reported in Arizona when a human skull was found in a donation box at a Goodwill charity store. However, experts determined that the skull was likely ancient and not associated with any criminal activity.

In 2019, for instance, researchers unearthed a nearly complete 3.8 million-year-old skull in Ethiopia, Africa.
