Former supermodel Christie Brinkley made a shocking announcement on Wednesday, revealing that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer. The 70-year-old shared the news on Instagram, where she posted images of herself with bandages on her forehead, as well as graphic photos of the excision and stitches after the procedure. Brinkley disclosed that she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer, during a routine visit to the doctor with one of her daughters. The doctor noticed a mark near her eye and immediately conducted a biopsy, which revealed the cancer. Brinkley emphasized the importance of early detection and urged her followers to get regular check-ups and use SPF protection against the sun.

Basal cell carcinoma typically begins in basal cells, which are found in the skin and is often caused by exposure to sunlight. Brinkley stressed that this type of cancer can be avoided with proper sun protection, something she admitted to taking seriously a bit late. She thanked her doctors at New York's Laser & Skin Surgery Center for their care and treatment. Brinkley has been vocal about embracing aging and has been quick to respond to negative comments about her appearance in the past.

In addition to sharing her cancer diagnosis, Brinkley also used the opportunity to address the importance of self-care and regular total body check-ups. She emphasized the need for sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher, staying in the shade, and covering up when outside. Brinkley's post came weeks after she celebrated her 70th birthday, where she reflected on being happy with the person she sees in the mirror and being grateful for her life. She concluded her post by encouraging her followers to make a check-up appointment and to prioritize their health and well-being.
