An intruder broke into Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' official residence, Getty House, early Sunday morning, smashing a window to gain entry while the house was occupied. The incident occurred at around 6:40 a.m. local time, with Bass and her family inside at the time but thankfully unharmed. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested without incident by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Mayor Bass' spokesperson, Zach Seidl, expressed gratitude to the LAPD for their swift response and apprehension of the suspect. Detectives are currently investigating whether the mayor was specifically targeted in the break-in. The nondescript Tudor-style home in the Windsor Square neighborhood has been the official residence of the Los Angeles Mayor since 1977.
This is not the first security incident involving Bass, as her previous home was burglarized in late 2022 while she was still a member of the United States House of Representatives. The suspects in that case made off with firearms before being arrested. The investigation into the recent break-in at Getty House is ongoing, with no additional information available at this time. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
